Avvio Medical, formally known as Applaud Medical, is a Caltech spin-out with promise to vastly improve the treatment for kidney stones by providing injectable micro bubbles that attach to stones and improve the effectiveness of existing treatments. Avvio’s treatment could also be used in combination with low-intensity unfocused ultrasound to revolutionize kidney stone treatment, allowing stone elimination to happen in the urologist’s office without anesthesia or surgery.
